Cat themed cake for a cat and coffee lover – Getting creative with friends!

On the occassion of a dear friend’s birthday today, last night we decided to bake a cake for her. The type of cake to be baked needed some pondering though. The birthday girl loves cats and coffee and is extremely creative. So, when a friend suddenly got the idea of baking a Schwedentorte (Swedish cake) and incorporating cats on it, we (figuratively) jumped in excitement and rushed to Coop to buy Marzipan and the other ingredients needed.

She found the recipe online, and we just worked accordingly. Fortunately, we had a cat shaped cookie cutter, (apart from a donkey and other things), and so we flattened out the Marzipan rolls and cut out cats in different colours. My friend made the grass patches in green, and we tried to make different types of cats. Honestly, I have never been a cat person, but doing this was so much fun! I felt like a kid playing with mould and making different things out of it. I think it is a good idea to do such spontaneous things and get creative with friends. Certainly a stress buster 🙂 I am sure that none of my friends back home would ever think that I could co-bake a cake or do any kind of Arts&Crafts, based on what they remember from school. But hey, there is a first time for everything and you are never too old to try out anything new!

After about two and a half hours or so in total, we had finally made the cake and lots of extra vanilla sauce. Here is what it looked like:
